SBCC's Campus Community celebrates 'Best of 2023'
Santa Barbara, Calif. (December 14, 2023) — A host of accolades and awards made 2023 one of the best years ever at Santa Barbara
City College. Guided by its vision to “build a socially conscious community where knowledge and respect empower individuals
to transform our world” in mind, the college made some major milestones in supporting
its campus community this year.

Of the 20 local citizens profiled in SB Independent's "Local Heroes of 2023" feature, four standout staff and alumni from SBCC made the list. Congratulations to SBCC's phenomenal Women's Water Polo coach Brian "Chuckie" Roth; SBCC alumnus and co-editor of Gunpowder Press Chryss Yost; founding Director of SBCC's Creative Writing Program and co-editor of Gunpowder Press David Starkey; and Executive Director of Santa Barbara International Film Festival and SBCC Film Studies professor Roger Durling.
