Language Exchange Program
SBCC International Student Program
Welcome to our Language Exchange Program!
Do you want to have a partner to brush up the language you are learning?
Do you have friends who are interested in your language and culture?
Do you want to learn more about a culture, deeper than just food and music?
Join our program and have fun with us throughout this semester!
You DON'T NEED TO BE GOOD AT TEACHING YOUR LANGUAGE!
Our program focuses on having fun and connecting with others as you are learning!
We will send you weekly "Topics" to chat about with your partner in our Newsletter
to spark your conversations.
Beginning Spring semester 2021, we are launching an active and supportive community for our participants through Discord.com! (Joining Discord is NOT MANDATORY)
About the program
This project originated in 2005 as a collaboration between many SBCC departments, and is now coordinated through the International Education Center. We welcome all SBCC students who are multilingual or who are learning a new language to join our student-led community.
To provide a space for students (not only but especially ESL, international, and School of Modern Language students) to practice a language they are learning with a native speaker, as well as learn the culture behind the language.
Two Main components:
1. Pair-Up (Group) Meetings
We will match you with other students based on your language-learning preference.
You and your partner(s) will meet via Zoom on your own. Every week we will send you
a "newsletter" with suggestions of topics to talk about with your partner(s)!
2. Online Community
Through Discord.com, we are providing an active and supportive community for our participants!
You can chat and connect with other LEP participants, as well as approach us with
any concerns or questions. Joining Discord is NOT MANDATORY, but we will encourage you to try it out.

The collage will be hung up on the SBCC Cliff Campus, and the individual photos will be posted on our Instagram page as well!
