Meet Some Students

Here are a few words from our students...

Cristian Alvarez
" Being the first male in my family to attend college, I have felt a lot of pressure and have high expectations in every aspect of my education.
When I first started at SBCC, I didn't have a major and was undecided on a career path. The TAP program has played an extremely important role in my development in this college. Now starting my third year, I am seeking transfer to the local UC as a Sociology major, something that I can relate to the advisors at TAP. The TAP program has given me the encouragement to look ahead and invest in my future. Of course the campus trips and events are all wonderful, but they cannot replace the TAP advisors and staff that help us get there. I hope to one day be a part of TAP and am very excited to see this program grow."

Judith Rodriguez

"Hello, I am Judith Rodriguez and I was born here in Santa Barbara. I started attending SBCC during the Summer of 2011 and I have been involved with TAP ever since. I am majoring in Nursing and I plan to transfer to CSU Channel Islands or CSU Long Beach this coming up year. I have received a lot of help being a part of the Transfer Achievement Program. It  is such an amazing program offered here at SBCC and I am really happy that I became a part of it  because I don't know where I would have been with out all of their guidance. All of the staff and counselors are really nice and devote all their time to help underprivileged students figure out where they want to transfer and continue their education. They really help with everything that is needed to succeed in school including; scholarships, college trips, advice, educational goals and so much more. It is truly one of the best program offered at SBCC where you always feel comfortable and encouraged to achieve all your educational goals."

Mynor Chavez

As a foreign student from Guatemala, one day I thought the highest education level I could reach up to was high school, but thanks to the T.A.P and one of its counselors, I was able to come to college, and
study International Business. Now, when I sit in a college classroom and listen to my professors; my mind travels back in time to that day when Francisco Dorrame (counselor) from the T.A.P. convinced me that I could reach success, even though I was the first generation to attend college. Thanks T.A.P. You changed my life, and the lives of my future generations.
