Earth 133: Colorado Plateau

An honors-level field seminar to the parks of Arizona, Colorado, and Utah (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Arches, Natural Bridges, Monument Valley, Capital Reef, and more...)
Designed for the student who has successfully completed an introductory geology class with an A or B grade.  Previous enrollment in Earth 131 or 132 is recommended.

Earth 134: Western Sierra Nevada

A field seminar to the Western Sierra Nevada. Designed both for students with no geology background and for students with geology background that want to learn about a new area.  Contact Jeff Meyer or Bill Dinklage for more information.

Summer Field Course

Earth 137 - Introductory Field Geology is a 3.2 unit course offered in the summer. The dates are June 17 through July 9, 2013, with the first two weeks in S.B. and the last few days in the White-Inyo Mountains, near Bishop

Earth 138 - Geologic Field Camp is a 4.3 unit course offered from July 10 to July 26, with the first two weeks in the field and the last two days in S.B. writing up your final projects.

Who can take it?
Any student who has had a beginning geology course such as Earth 111-Dynamnic Earth with lab and/or Earth 112 - History of the Earth with lab can take Earth 137. The better-prepared students are those who have had the labs. Earth 125 - Mineralogy and Earth 126 - Petrology are helpful courses but not required. For Earth 138, you must have completed Earth 137 or have the consent of the instructor.

 

Canada (Summer)
(Three Weeks)

An honors level field seminar to study the geology of the western US and Canada(Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier, Banff, Jasper, Crater Lake, Mt Lassen, and more...).
Designed for the student who has successfully completed an introductory geology class with an A or B grade.  Previous enrollment in Earth 131, 132, or 133, is strongly recommended.
