Volunteer, Internship & Job Fair Preparation
Preparation:
Bring copies of your resume to the event. Make sure it focuses on appropriate academic and/or work experience. The Career Center can help you with resume writing.
- Dress appropriately. Remember, you want to make a good impression.
- Research the Company; the Career Center has many of the web addresses.
- Bring a list of focused and pertinent questions. Be prepared to answer questions about your grades, work/community experiences and your goals.
During the Job Fair:
- When greeting the recruiter, introduce yourself and look confident. Give a firm handshake and a smile.
- Express your interest by showing knowledge of the organization. Ask the employer about their hiring process and the possibility of visiting the employer’s facility.
- Ask the representative for a business card. Be courteous. Remember that the recruiters have been talking to students for hours.
After the Job Fair:
- Send a “thank you” note to the representative and confirm your interest in the position and company.
- Within a week follow up by making a phone call if you have not heard from the company.
