Welcome
Welcome to SBCC Men's Volleyball
*** 2011 Western State Conference 2nd-place finish
*** 2011 WSC Coach of the Year – Armen Zakarian
Santa Barbara City College has a great tradition of success in men’s volleyball, with
a mixture of local talent and top recruits bringing their game to campus each year.
When we are not training in the gym, you can find student-athletes playing beach volleyball
at nearby East Beach. Located right next to the ocean, SBCC provides many opportunities
to train competitively on both surfaces.
In 2007, a fully equipped Life Fitness Center was added on campus for strength training. We also have a full medical/training room. The Athletic Achievement Zone has been established to ensure that our athletes are fulfilling their potential as college students. To complement these marvelous facilities, we have an experienced coaching, faculty and administrative staff who will ensure that you progress to your goals both as a volleyball player and a student.
Armen Zakarian was named head coach in July 2010, and in his first year, he guided the Vaqueros back to the state playoffs with a 2nd-place Western State Conference finish in 2011. Zakarian played for the Vaqueros, earning Athlete of the Year honors in 2005, before transferring to UCSB to play for the Gauchos at UC Santa Barbara.
Prospective Student-Athletes:
Anyone interested in playing for the Vaquero men’s volleyball team should first get in contact with head coach Armen Zakarian (aazakarian@pipeline.sbcc.edu) and fill out a recruitment form.
Student-athletes will then enroll in PE 147B during the Fall semester, where tryouts and evaluations will take place. Upon successful completion of the Fall semester, student-athletes will enroll in PE 191A during the Spring semester. All first-time SBCC students must enroll in Personal Development (PD 140) before the beginning of the Spring semester.
