Financial Aid

 F-1 visa students are not eligible for federal loans and grants that require U.S. residency, however students may be eligible for scholarships or grants that do not have citizenship or residency requirements.

Big Future (CollegeBoard.org) is a scholarship finder on CollegeBoard.org that lists financial aid and internship options from more than 2,200 programs. Be sure to check your employment eligibility with your international student advisor before applying for any internship programs!

Education USA provides information about scholarship opportunities and is maintained by the U.S. Department of State. 

International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) provides a comprehensive list of grants, scholarships, loan programs and more, all available to students who want to study in the U.S. or around the world. 

International Financial Aid and College Scholarship Search provides listings of scholarships and loan opportunities for international students in the United States as well as American students studying internationally. 

Institute of International Education (IIE) researches and compiles updated lists of scholarship and funding opportunities for international students seeking education opportunities in the U.S. Review the Funding for United States Study ebook for scholarships, grants, and loans to cover education costs.

Mobility USA includes scholarship search sites as well as tips for improving your scholarship application.

SBCC Scholarships are administered by the Foundation for SBCC, the unit of the College which raises and manages private scholarship funds for SBCC students. International students who are currently studying at SBCC are eligible to apply for some of the scholarships. 

The application period takes place annually from January through early March. A descriptive list of scholarships, eligibility criteria for each, and the application deadline are published in the beginning of spring semester each year. Check the Financial Aid Office website under "Services" in Pipeline in late January or early February.

Study California awards minimum $1000 scholarships each fall to three NEW international students based on their academic ability, financial need, and leadership qualities. The funds are intended to be used for educational purposes (tuition, fees, books, supplies). Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than November and awards will be disbursed shortly afterward after verification of full-time enrollment. 

Unigo is a network for students searching for funding for college and includes college and scholarship matching as well as helpful tips.

The Leo S. Rowe Fund is an educational loan program of the Organization of American States (OAS) that helps citizens from Latin America and Caribbean OAS Member States finance their studies in accredited universities across the United States by awarding interest-free loans of up to $15,000 dollars.

We Make Scholars connects students to banks in India offering multi-city, international loans for funding study abroad. The organization was founded by two international students from India. They aim to provide reliable and transparent information for funding international students' educational goals.

Internationalstudent.com has a travel video contest every year. To enter the contest, students who want to study in another country make a short video about their dream. Currently, the prize is $4000 towards the costs of studying abroad. 

International Student Protection Photo Contest celebrates holidays from around the world. Submit a photo or video of your favorite holiday and you may win up to $500! Students must be studying in the U.S. to be eligible for this award.

National Association of International Educators (NAFSA) provides tips for applying for international financial aid, to protect students from dishonest lenders and scholarship offers. They also list several reliable sources for scholarship searches.
