What is the Management Professional Growth Incentive Program?

The Management Group Professional Growth Incentive Program (My MPG) is designed to encourage all permanent classified supervisors/managers and educational administrators to improve professionally by participating in formal educational opportunities and other approved training and leadership activities.

What is the Management Professional Growth incentive?

The Management Professional Growth (MPG) Incentive is a cash bonus of $250 per year for each increment of 12 points, up to eight increments per year ($2,000). These bonuses continue annually for as long as you are a classified supervisor/manager or educational administrator with SBCC. All MPG Incentive activities are entered in the "Submit" tab of the MPG system through Pipeline.

Guidelines

1) The Board of Trustees may grant professional growth salary increments in the amount of $250 per increment to an eligible manager subject to the conditions set forth in this program. Total increments shall not exceed eight (8), for a total of $2,000. If all the criteria are met, all eight (8) increments may be earned in one year,

2) The Board of Trustees shall grant such increments for the MPG once per year effective July 1. It is understood that the increment will be based on successful completion of the incentive program requirements. The deadline for all submissions into My MPG is in April of each year for consideration of new increments to be effective July 1. All coursework/activities that are being submitted must be completed by the April deadline.

3) Coursework submitted and approved for My MPG may not be submitted for the Management Tuition Reimbursement program. Coursework submitted and approved for the Management Tuition Reimbursement program may not be submitted for My MPG.

4) No credit will be given for any professional growth activities completed prior to the employee's beginning date of employment with the District. Once you have achieved permanency, any coursework/activities started after your date of hire may be counted toward an increment providing all criteria outlined are met.

5) If a classified supervisor/manager or educational administrator who is being paid a professional growth increment terminates employment with Santa Barbara City College for any reason and is subsequently re-employed in a classified supervisor/manager or educational administrator position, the professional growth increments to which he or she may previously have been entitled will be reinstated.

6) Professional growth increments shall continue throughout college employment even though classifications change. If an employee earned increments previously as classified staff, increments will be cumulative but limited to no more than eight.

7) The Human Resources Department shall maintain records pertaining to the professional growth incentive program. It is the sole responsibility of the employee to submit in a timely manner the required forms and documentation/verification of activities pertaining to the professional growth incentive program.

How are My MPG increments earned?

The Board of Trustees encourages managers to avail themselves of opportunities to improve their training, development, and on-the-job effectiveness through the following professional growth activities:

Increments 1 – 8 Acceptable Activities  (Effective October 1, 2011)

New Employee District Orientation (1 point – one-time only)

All new classified supervisors/managers and educational administrators attend this orientation when hired. Credit for New Employee District Orientation will only be awarded for Orientations completed after October 1, 2011.

Credit Courses

Credit courses are taken at an accredited college, community college, or recognized trade school. These courses are designed to provide the employee with additional or refined skills to improve job performance and general development.

A maximum of one (1) PE credit will be approved per increment.

An unofficial transcript must be submitted into My MPG to verify the satisfactory completion of all college coursework.

Semester units are equal to 1 increment point per unit. Quarter units are equal to 2/3 increment point per unit.

Audited Classes

MPG credit will not be given for audited courses.

Continuing Education Courses/CEU's

These courses MUST be related to employee's current job or future job assignments. All managers may enroll in one non-credit course each term and the District will waive the enrollment fees. Verification of hours in attendance and completion of the course is required documentation that must be submitted into My MPG. Increment credit is based on total hours for the course. Sixteen hours of coursework is equal to one point, eight hours is equal to ½ point, and four hours is equal to ¼ point.

Leadership Activities

Leadership activities are designed to expand an employee's involvement in both District and non-District affairs through recognition of leadership efforts.  The employee must serve one full year as an active member or elected/appointed official (limited to 2 organizations per year).  A written letter of service from an officer of the organization is required for verification. All leadership activities submitted are subject to approval.

County, State and National educational organizations (3 points) Approved by the State Board of Education

Professional/ City organizations (2 points) Credit involvement must be approved.

SBCC Committee membership (1 point) Credit is not given if committee membership is required as part of the employee's job responsibility.

SBCC shared governance committee participation is acceptable. For committee membership to be eligible for consideration, the mimumum duration of this service is one year.

 

Conferences, Workshops and Webinars

All job related conferences, workshops, and webinars are training opportunities accepted for My MPG increments. Verification of hours in attendance at the training is required documentation that must be submitted into the "Submit" tab of the MPG system. Increment credit is based on total hours for the training. Sixteen hours of coursework is equal to one point, eight hours is equal to ½ point, and four hours is equal to ¼ point.

CPR Certificate

For initial CPR certification one point will be awarded toward an increment. Additional increment credit will be given for CPR re-certification based upon total number of hours of instruction. Verification of hours in attendance and completion of the course are required documentation that must be submitted into My MPG. Eight hours is equal to ½ point, and four hours is equal to ¼ point.

Note: Annual conferences for specific job training, Leibert Cassidy workshops, and all technology software coursework may be repeated for My MPG credit. All other courses may be repeated for My MPG with credit given on a sliding scale. Full credit will be given for the first time the course is taken, ¾ credit will be given for the second time the course is repeated, and ½ credit will be given for the third time the course is repeated. This does not apply to CPR re-certification courses for which credit will be given as identified above. This does not apply to P.E. courses as you may only earn one point of P.E. credit per increment.

Note: Requests for consideration of work-related activities not specifically listed in the approved list of My MPG activities must be submitted into the "Submit" tab of the MPG system, and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Note: The College President may identify a training theme for an academic year. During that year training opportunities will be offered specific to the identified training theme and My MPG credit will be awarded for training participation.

What is the Management Group Professional Growth Incentive Payment Schedule?

Increment applications are reviewed in April each year. All My MPG activity approved in April will be eligible for new increments effective July 1 of each year. Increments will be paid on a monthly basis.


How to enter activities and supporting documents into My MPG:

1) Log in to Pipeline

2) Under the “Employee” tab go to Resources and click on the link to "Management Professional Growth Program" on the lower left side. 

3) Once logged into the MPG Program, you will get to the Vision Resource Center Professional Development Portal.
