"I am an HIT student enrolled in three classes
this semester. I would like to take this opportunity to share with
you how important this course has been to me and how this education
will ultimately impact my future.
I have been a stay at home mom for 10 years. I have
gone through a divorce and much to my dismay I discovered I was
not a desirable candidate for hire although I had 20 years experience
in the healthcare industry.
I have been given an opportunity to further my education
because SBCC offers the classes I need online. I am able to complete
homework, quizzes etc at anytime, night or day nor do I have to
worry about arranging child care.
Next semester (Spring) I will take 5 classes plus
a practicum...and they are all online! I am grateful for this opportunity...without
your online program I would not have the time to further my education
while I parent my child and work part time!
I want to also state that the instructors have all
been simply wonderful to work with!"

"I have enjoyed my online class with Sue Watkins
and really gotten alot from this class. I have told everyone who
is interested in a CCS certificate program to go to you.
I wish I knew about SBCC along time ago. I am very
thankful for this type of learning environment and know the more
people who find out you do this type of schooling the more they
will enjoy it too.
Thank you again. I will continue to look forward
in learing with SBCC!"

"I am currently enrolled
in the CIM certificate program at SBCC. Having worked in the CIM
field, I was in need of a formal training program in order to sit
for the certification exam.
The SBCC program was recommended to me by the Florida
State Cancer Registry. I live near Orlando and am required at home
due to some health issues here, so your online courses were a welcome
surprise.
The CIM online courses have been well-structured
and well-presented making learning fun and easy. The ability to
do the course at my own pace and at a time I choose is invaluable.
Thank you so much for offering this course and finding such wonderful
people to administer it!"

This semester has been a great experience for me.
I completed CIM 100 Registry Organization & Operations from
Sue Watkins and HT 135 Introduction to Medical Terminology from
Kathleen Peterson. These were my first on-line courses so I was
very nervous and did have computer problems at the very beginning.
Sue, Kathy and the SBCC staff I was fortunate to speak to were very
supportive and very encouraging.
I work full time and find that on-line classes are
great for continuing my education. It has been some time since I
have been back in school and I am so glad I discovered your college.
The colleges near me do not offered HT or CIM classes on-line. I
have learned a tremendous amount this semester concerning the classes
and just operating my computer.
Great program!

My experience with the SBCC HIT and CIM programs
has been a wonderful one. It is an excellent program for those who
are self-disciplined, working or not, and who love to learn at their
own pace and with the flexibility to meet most anyones busy
schedule. Initially, we met each semester with the program director
and registered, getting our assignments and sending them back via
regular mail, and met weekly in study groups at each others
homes, and taking exams at local junior college campuses.
As the HIT program developed, we then moved into
online first, with a chat room and then with an online exam
program, and then to WebCT. Now lectures and homework assignments
are downloadable from the site, and then submitted via the Homework
button as attachments from the Wordprocessing or other program utilized
to complete the homework or project. Chatrooms are available in
which study groups can meet with students from the West to East
Coast, and from outside of the US, and at a time that is convenient
for the members of the group. The Study groups are great and most
of us really get into typing back and forth, learning from each
other and getting a better feel for the subject at hand (as well
as sending and receiving support from each other) and we have had
some really good discussions.
Friendships have formed and I have had the opportunity
to meet several of my fellow students in person at various associational
meetings since then. Each instructor also has online hours and a
chatroom in which they can meet with students individually or in
a group. Exams are online and you have immediate feedback, and can
print the exam for future reference. Each student has access to
an email account and there is a bulletin board where you can post
questions, messages to each other and instructors, as well as a
variety of other things, including job postings in the field
which is how I got my current position in the local regional cancer
registry.
The instructors are all experienced practioners
and leaders in Health or Cancer Information Management who give
of their time, talent, and knowledge, and who share their experiences
in the field with us. They have listened to us as well and taken
our feedback to heart. I cant think of any better way to learn.

Dear HIT Dept-
I recently completed all but one
of the courses (Microsoft office) in the HIT program and sat for
the CCS exam in Sept. 2004.
I am thankful to say I passed. All of the classes I completed
in
this program were very helpful to keep me focused to reach
my GOAL!
Thank You,
